I try to find the place where paper and fabric meet. In these pieces, for example, I used paper with a high fiber content. I like to find artists who write on fabric and sew with paper.
My work has a heavy design emphasis; color balance, spatial relationships, efficient line. I want shapes flattened and simplified. Realism and shading are non-existent issues for me
Ingrid Hess lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. She is a professional designer with a Master of fine arts from Indiana University, emphasis in design.
As an artist, Ingrid is a painter, quilter, collage artist and book binder. When Im communicating my ideas through art, I find that I draw on design elements and principles such as color balance, spatial relationships, flattening of surface, simplicity. Less is more.
Ingrids playful paper collage series Hats was designed and assembled in 2004. Paper type, color and design were chosen specifically for this series. Possible future series: shoes.
