Ben Stutzman

Artist profile

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Ben graduated from Goshen College in 1990 with a fine art major. After college, Ben moved to San Francisco where watercolor and gouache became his medium of choice to represent the bright sun of California and the colorful Victorian houses of the city.

In 2000, Ben returned to Goshen where he is currently working as a full time painter and advocate for the arts. In recent years, Ben has turned to oil paint to represent the solid, historic brick buildings that are plentiful in the Midwest. Working in a variety of mediums, themes include architecture, current events and abstract renderings of line and form.

During the past two summers, Ben has enjoyed working with Dave Kendall on a series of collaborative pieces. Working with another artist provided the opportunity for Ben to explore new mediums and styles. The collaborative works incorporate layers of pasted images, acrylic paint, charcoal, and pencil drawings.
